[First Thoughts] Re:Birthday Song ~Koi o Utau Shinigami~

Re:Birthday Song ~Koi o Utau Shinigami ( Re:BIRTHDAY SONG~恋を唄う死神~) is a 2015 Japanese supernatural fantasy otome game, developed by Honeybee (the team behind the popular, Starry Sky series). While the game does not have an official English language release, earlier this year, estearisa released a full English patch of the game. Of course as it is with most patches, you’ll have to purchase a Japanese copy of the PC game (not the Vita port) in order to play it. I will say this now, it’s easier to find copies of the Vita version of the game, however, they won’t work with the patch. (Ebay has a few copies floating around though)

The game follows Kokoro a young girl who suddenly becomes the newest resident of the Netherworld, a place where souls with deep regrets go when they die, as she trains to become a full fledged shinigami. But, because our heroine isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, she has to take supplementary lessons with a group of shinigami rejects…

I am notorious for never finishing games, so I picked up Re: Birthday on a whim, since my playthroughs of Period Cube have pretty much come to a standstill. So, I figured I’d play one route and go back to PC, what I didn’t expect was to be hit over the head with wave after wave of tear inducing emotions… OH MY GOD THE FEELS IN THIS GAME!! I’d played one of Honeybee’s other titles, Starry Sky in Spring ages ago and it’s like comparing apples and oranges!

Disclaimer: Screenshots used in this post were taken from the game and belong to Honeybee and the other respective developers of the game. Also, this game deals with some mature topics such as, but not limited to: death, suicide, and grief. Just a bit of a warning.

[First Thoughts] Period Cube ~Shackles of Amadaeus~

Period Cube ~Shackles of Amadaeus~ is a fantasy/RPG Japanese otome game developed by Otomate, based on the Drama CD series of the same name. The game was released in Japan in 2016 for the PS Vita, prior to it’s English language release by Aksys Games on April 28th. I’d heard some mixed reviews about this game from folks who played the Japanese version, but I like to give games the benefit of the doubt, especially when it comes to major localizations and releases (Norn9 does not count)… Period Cube is a commercial release, full retail: $39.99 USD on Amazon (affiliate link), which isn’t all that bad for what the game has to offer, especially when importing the Japanese version is double, if not triple that amount.

I seriously thought I’d be done with Period Cube by now, I honestly hoped that I would be, but life has been getting in the way of my gaming. I’m still working my way through the game ( a full review is still a ways off), but I’ve already cleared four routes and I have more than a few thoughts about the game… namely, WTF is with this MC?!! Plus, it’s good to get my ranting out of the way now… There may be some spoilers, but since I’m still playing through the game, there shouldn’t be any major plot reveals…

[First Thoughts] Irresistible Mistakes

Voltage has been teasing us with this game for months and finally their newest app, Irresistible Mistakes is available for download!! In this game the MC has a one night stand with a complete stranger only to discover that her one time bed buddy happens to be one of her co-workers?! Voltage had me at one night stand! I have been so hyped for this game since the first time I saw the PV on Voltage’s official YouTube channel.

Irresistible Mistakes combines the office romance premise from games like Office Secrets and Our Two Bedroom Story, with the mature romance of In Your Arms Tonight and Finally in Love Again in order to create something that surpasses all of their other games up to this point!

Please if you are interested in the game, download the game for free in the App Store or from Google Play and purchase the stories when they are available in your area.  Continue reading “[First Thoughts] Irresistible Mistakes”

[First Thoughts] Backstage Pass

Alright, so this is another game that has been sitting in my backlog for way too long. But, since my office was closed for Spring Break  I figured now was a good time as ever to pull this game out of the abyss and give it a play… I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with stats raiser games, on one hand… nah, I’m not even going to try and sugar coat it! Stats raiser games can be a pain in the ass, plain and simple, and I have heard some wonderful stories about the stats raising in SakeVisual’s Backstage Pass, that made me very reluctant to start it…

Backstage Pass  was released twice, the first being the early access beta (2014), which is what I originally bought and never played, and the second being the final completed version of the game which was released August 2016 for PC (Windows, Linux, Mac) and Steam. The game features full English voice acting and at a cool $29.99, I’d say that’s a fair price to pay for the amount of content the game offers.

The Man of My Dreams is a Horse: My Horse Prince-First Thoughts & Impressions

The internet is home to some truly bizarre stuff, so when I saw images of handsome man’s head superimposed on a horse’s body, I laughed along with the rest of you all and didn’t really think much of it… In fact, I think I assumed it was some ridiculous fan-made creation. So, when I found out that not only was this not a hoax, but a very real otome game called Uma no Prince-sama (renamed My Horse Prince for the English localization), I didn’t know how to feel.

I’m no stranger to strange animal dating games, they’re everywhere, from free mobile apps like Animal Boyfriend to commercial otoge like  Hatoful Boyfriend and Dandelion~ Wishes Brought to You, there are no shortage of human/animal titles on the market. Hell, I quite enjoyed Hatoful Boyfriend, so I figured the leap from pigeons to horses shouldn’t have been such a big deal… right?!

[First Thoughts] Dangerous Seduction

There I was minding my own business, browsing Twitter, when I saw that Voltage had finally decided to release a brand new app, Dangerous Relationship! So I immediately dropped everything and downloaded the game from the App store!!

So first things first, the art is a bit different from their other games and I have to admit that when I first saw it I wasn’t really a fan of it, but it grew on me… Okay, I’m lying, I’m still on the fence about the art style, but the premise more than makes up for that!

[First Thoughts]Mystic Destinies: Serendipity of Aeons

This game was originally on my Summer Game Playlist, but one thing led to another and I never got around to actually playing it before the end of the summer. If I’m being honest, I never intended to get through that list in the first place since I have a habit of getting distracted by new games easily… *cough* Liar Uncover the Truth *coughSo, now that I’ve finished wallowing in mobile otoge hell, I’ve finally decided to revisit some of the games from my poor neglected backlog (so expect many more First Thoughts posts in the coming days and weeks). The first game on the agenda is Aeon Dream Studios’s (aka Star Maiden Games) debut title, Mystic Destinies: Serendipity of Aeons.

Okay, so first things first, Mystic Destinies: Serendipity of Aeons was released back in February and while the prologue and the first chapters of each route are free, the Main Stories and Epilogues are $4.99 and $1.99 respectively. There are five romanceable characters, but as of this post only three guys have been released (number four, Takumi will be released later on this month)…

[First Thoughts] This World Unknown

So with all of the Liar! Uncover the Truth reviews I’ve been writing lately, it might be hard to believe that I’ve also been playing another game… Yup, I have been playing Ebi-Hime‘s most recent commercial visual novel, This World Unknown! Shocking, I know, Liar! has literally been taking up all of my time lately, but in between Liars I have been slowly (I mean snail’s pace slow) making my way through this game! First, let me clarify that I’ve only managed to make it through one route… ya’ll, this game is much more time consuming than I originally anticipated… I started this game at the beginning of October and it is now  November and I’ve only completed one route!

When I first saw this game I thought this would be a cute, short game to kill time with while I figured out what my next big game would be after Norn9. But, one thing lead to another and Norn9 was put on an indefinite hold and this game was put on the back burner after I got hooked on Liar! Well, now that I’m almost done with Liar! I’ve been able to devote more time to TWU, but not as much as I would have liked especially now that I’ve started working… *sigh* The full game review is still a little ways off, but I still wanted to get my thoughts on the game out there before I get too busy or I get distracted by another game again….

**Disclaimer: I DO NOT own any of the images used in this review, ALL images, screenshots, and characters belong to ebi-hime and Sekai Project. Please if you are interested in the game, purchase the game either through itch.io or through Steam for ONLY $7.99!!

Right now you can download the demo from the Nintendo eShop for free! All players who download the demo will be able to obtain a special Pokémon that can be transferred over to the either Sun and Moon upon their release in November. The special Pokémon, Ash’s Greninja is modeled after the Pokémon owned by the anime only protagonist, Ash Ketchum. But, that’s just one of the many perks the demo has to offer and I’m going to cover them all in this special Pokémon Sun and Moon demo review!!

*Update [10/19]: I want to give a shoutout to Phya, she definitely helped me out with the 3DS screencap issue, I’ll definitely be using it for future 3DS game reviews!!

So You Wanna Chat with Hot Guys… There’s an App for That: Mystic Messenger- First Thoughts

Mystic Messenger is a free to play real time mobile game from Cheritz, the company behind PC otome games Dandelion- Wishes brought to you and Nameless- The one thing you must recall. In the game while looking for a new game in the app store, the MC (you) accidentally download a strange messenger app. Upon opening the app, you are immediately pulled into a chat with a mysterious user named Unknown, who instructs you to go to a certain address. Once there your phone logs in to a secret chat room filled with hot guys and one super awesome gal (outside of Zen’s route). From there you are asked to join the R.F.A., their secret party planning group.

I want to get this out while it’s still fresh in my head. I just cleared Zen’s Good End on my first playthrough of the game. I’ve spent 11 sleepless nights on this game and I have a lot to say about the game…
