Five Webcomics I am Totally Obsessed With…

Hey Hey Heroes, Travelers, and NPCs, I don’t know about you guys, but, it’s been a pretty hectic week on my end. Between deadlines at work, unforeseen disasters, and just plain old adulting, it’s really easy to get bogged down by… well, Life. Sometimes, you just want a bit of an escape, whether that’s kicking back with a good book or watching that Netflix series everyone’s been raving about, we all have our ways of checking out from reality (if only for a short while). I, myself dabble in quite a few extracurricular activities to get my mind off of my responsibilities, but recently, I have been obsessed with webcomics!

So, to pass the time, I figured it’d be cool to compile a list of my current favorites! Forewarning though, I’m partial to slice-of-life romances, and it wasn’t until after I wrote this list that I realized they were all romances… I guess I have a type… Also, these aren’t in any particular order, since I love them all for different reasons.

Let’s Show Our Support for Wishes in Pen: Chrysanthemums in August!!

Hey hey Heroes, Travelers, and Wandering NPCs, it’s been a LOOOOONG time since I wrote one of these (bear with me while I get back into the swing of things), but there’s a Kickstarter campaign for an upcoming historical romance otome game, Wishes in Pen: Chrysanthemums in August that I think you guys should definitely check out! There are less than 10 days left in the campaign and they are almost at their goal!

For those of you new, here, Let’s Show Our Support posts highlight current crowdfunding campaigns for indie games (usually VNs and OELVNs). I give you guys the basic rundown of the game and the perks of supporting the game’s campaign, as well as links to all the relevant game related pages and sites.

I am a sucker for historical media, so when I saw this campaign I was over the moon! The game appears to be in the same vein as other historical themed otome games, such as Two-Five’s Yo Jin Bo and Idea Factory’s Hakuoki franchise.

Behind the Games: Mikomi Kisomi

Hey Hey Heroes, Travelers, and Wandering NPCs, I’m back with another Behind the Games post!

For those of you just joining the party,  Behind the Games is a new segment where I interview the folks ‘behind the games’ I review. The series is meant to act as a complement to the reviews I write, giving you guys a chance to get to know the developers that spend so much time carefully crafting the games you enjoy. For each interview I send the Devs five questions (and one random bonus question), to kind of flesh out who they are, while also getting a bit of insight into their inspirations for their games. It’s completely voluntary and meant to be a fun way to get you guys acquainted with content creators.

Last time around I spoke with Angela He, the creator of the psychological thriller VN, I Woke Up Next To You Again, so if you missed that, I definitely recommend checking that post out too! This time around, I had the chance to chat with Mikomi Kisomi, the creator of the mystery/modern fantasy/josei VN That Which Binds Us!

Mikomi debuted back in 2014 with the yuri game Crossed Paths: Connected Worlds for the Ludum Dare Game Jam and she has not slowed down since putting out several games in her almost 4 year career. She is an avid fan of visual novels and hopes to bring her own unique perspectives on the genre into the games she creates. In addition to her immersive stories, Miko’s games also feature LGBT characters, with many of her titles falling under the yuri game demographic. She is a developer that is constantly growing and adapting her style, so each of her games is a testament to her hard work and dedication! So, without further ado, let’s turn things over to Miko…

Crocheting While Otaku: My First Craft Fair Experience Pt. 1 – Selling in Person

Hey there Heroes, Travelers, and Wandering NPCs, it’s been awhile since I wrote one of these and honestly, it’s because I’ve been trying to keep up with this season’s anime… I know shocker! But, things have finally settled down enough for me to bang out another Crocheting While Otaku post!! This time around, I’m writing about my very first craft fair!!

So, two weeks ago I participated in a small local craft fair called, Art on the Plaza, ironically enough at one of my old temp jobs. There was no table fee, which I’ve found can range anywhere from $50 – $500, depending on the size of the fair, so I figured I had nothing to lose. There were only a handful of sellers, 18 in total and I managed to rope a friend into helping me sell stuff (three days of straight crocheting between the two of us) and we managed to produce a sizeable amount of stuff for the table; she provided some baby blankets and I had a bunch of dolls and plushies I needed to unload, but, it was enough to fill the table…

Behind the Games: Angela He (Zephyo)

Hey Hey Heroes, Travelers, and Wandering NPCs, I’m back from the dead and I am hitting the ground running, with a whole host of new content for you guys to enjoy. First up is a Q&A styled post series, Behind the Games! Between the reviews, guides, rants, and other content on Nice Job Breaking It, Hero, I do a lot of the talking, so I wanted to change things up a bit and give someone else the chance to get a word in.

The long and short of it: Behind the Games is a new segment where I interview the folks ‘behind the games’ I review.

In addition to the interview, I’ll also include links to the various social media channels and sites (game related sites included) so that you guys can reach out to the Dev about their works. I strongly encourage you all to check out their pages and engage with them! Let them know how much you love their games, most of the folks I’ve talked to are super nice and welcome conversation!

So, now that the intros are out of the way, let’s dive in to the very first Behind the Games interviewee: Angela He aka Zephyo, the creator of the psychological thriller VN, I Woke Up Next To You Again!

Angela He.png
Say Hey to Angela He (aka Zephyo)!!
Angela debuted in her junior year of high school, with her first title, Suppressed (available on Steam), now, she has over 10 titles under her belt. Her thought provoking narratives and stunning visuals have captivated audiences the world over. She has a knack for telling immersive stories that stay with you long after the credits roll. Each of her stories delve into the complexities of the human psyche, keeping the reader guessing as they peel back the layers of each intricately laid plot point. She is a phenomenal VN developer and an absolute joy to talk with, so without further ado, let’s turn things over Angela…

A Hauntingly Addictive Visual Novel – I Woke Up Next To You Again Review

Hey Hey Heroes, Travelers, and Wandering NPCs, I’m getting back into the swing of things by going back and working through all of the game review requests I received while I was on hiatus. First up is a rather surreal and surprisingly deep short psychological thriller visual novel from Angela He (Zephyo). This is a game unlike anything I have ever played before, with it’s dream-like visuals and stream of consciousness like storytelling, Angela He paints a rather startling picture of the psychological toll addiction and depression can have on one’s life, through the lens of a toxic more-than-one-night stand relationship.

“You’d told me,
Hey, this is a one-time thing, and I said yeah, of course –
Yet here we are.”

..who, exactly, am I waking up next to?

A romance about a more-than-one-night stand;
A psychological thriller about toxic addiction.

Synopsis (Game Site)

I Woke Up Next to You Again is a pay what you want PC game available for Windows, Mac, and Linux over on itch.io. It’s a rather short game, with playthroughs lasting anywhere between 15 – 30 minutes, depending on your reading speed.

Unofficial Hiatus Over!!- Seriously This Time…

Hey Hey Heroes, Travelers, and Wandering NPCs!! I know it has been awhile since I put out content here on Nice Job Breaking It Hero and for that I want to apologize. Life has been really hectic on my end between job hunting, writing for MANGA.TOKYO, running my Etsy shop, and just plain old apathy towards gaming in general, I just have not had the time to prioritize my blog.

I meant to come back to this blog much sooner than this, but, one thing led to another and now it’s August! 2018 is winding down and I just haven’t been as active as I once was and it doesn’t help that I just kind of dropped off the face of the planet either (not that I was all that great at keeping up with comments in the first place).

But, I needed the time away to reflect, because if I’m being honest, at the rate I was going before, I was getting pretty burned out on gaming and blogging. My heart just wasn’t in it anymore and it stopped being fun, something I never wanted to happen! So, after taking some time to myself I’ve decided to give blogging another go, this time though, I’m going at my own pace.

I started this blog because I wanted to talk about my interests with other people that liked the same things I did, and somewhere along the way it became a chore… So, while my “hiatus” is over, I’m not going to drive myself nuts trying to get reviews out every single day of the week (that is unless I absolutely feel like it). Also, I have a lot of game requests that I have to get through, so bear with me while I bang those out, because they take priority, since the devs took the time out to share their games with me. I’ll also be going back and responding to comments, so don’t be surprised if you see a reply for a comment you left months ago. I saw it when you wrote it, I just couldn’t get to it back then.

Expect new posts to start rolling out next week, I’m going to Otakon this weekend and I’m participating in a crafts fair this week, so my weekend is gonna be kind of busy.

But, before I disappear back into the abyss, I wanna thank you guys for bearing with me these past few months, while I got my stuff together… Your support and kind words really meant a lot to me, especially those of you I talk with on a regular basis.
