Last Week Today: Week End Recap- May. 7th to May 13th

Hello Heroes and Travelers, here we are at the end of another week here on Nice Job Breaking It, Hero! I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but being an adult sucks… I can’t imagine why I ever wanted to hurry up and grow up, because I had it easy as a kid….

grow up

*claps hands* I’m still dealing with a lot of real life…stuff, so aside from a few otome game updates, this blog has been kind of dead. I want to say that next week won’t be the same, but… I’m not one to make promises I know I can’t keep, so I’ll try to post a bit, but I’ll plan to be back full steam ahead starting in June.

I’ll be writing for MANGA.TOKYO!!

manga tokyo logo

So I mentioned that I had a super special awesome announcement, well here it is! I heard about this site through my work with OWL: Otaku Warriors for Liberty and Self-Respect and when our dear secretary mentioned that there might be a chance to write for them I jumped at the opportunity.

MANGA.TOKYO covers a wide range of topics related to Japan and Japanese media, so there’s something for everyone there!! I finally got one of my articles published, it’s a review of the BL manga, Ten Countso definitely check that out and be on the look out for more articles in the near future.

Affiliate Links

affiliates.png

Well, I finally broke down and signed up for some Affiliate Program so that I could possibly make a bit of cash doing this blogging thing. The way affiliate programs work is that I earn a small commission on any products you all buy using my affiliate links.  Right now I’m enrolled in Affiliate Programs for Amazon.com, MangaGamer, and Play-Asia so expect affiliate links to show up every so often in my posts in the near future. I will let you all know in advance if a post contains any affiliate links and I will update my sidebar with links to specific games and products.

The 5th OWLS Blog Tour- Strength is under way! Each OWLS member will be uploading their individual posts throughout the month of May!

“Your greatest weakness can become your greatest strength.”
In anime, characters struggle with inner demons or physical weaknesses that make them feel insecure and prevent them from achieving goals. Yet when these characters overcome their adversity, they can finally be able to express who they are or in other words, “Free to be Me.”
For this tour, we will be exploring anime characters that have overcome adversity due to a personal insecurity or physical weakness. It is these type of characters that many anime fans may identify as role models because fans are able to feel empathetic towards these characters’ struggles and insecurities.

This past week’s Blog Tour guides were crimson613 (My Fujoshi Life), who wrote about strength in the BL manga Ten Count, and Katrina Sade (Grimmgirl) who wrote about strength in Clannad After Story.

This Week’s OWLS Blog Tour Stops

  1. Hazelyn (Archi-Anime)– May 15th
  2. Steph (Two Happy Cats)– May 19th

There are plenty of Blog Tour Stops coming your way this month so be on the look out for announcements on the Official OWLS Twitter @OWLSbloggers, where we will keep you guys updated on each of the upcoming posts and other OWLS news!

I really want to hear from you guys, let me know what you think of Nice Job Breaking It, Hero. What do you think about this change? Do you guys like my posts? Here we are again at the end of another Recap Post, where I highlight four interesting posts from other bloggers that showed up on my Reader this past week…

OWLS Strength Blog Tour Shirotani’s Mental Fortitude and Helping Hand (Its Ok to Need Help SometimesThis post comes from Crimson613 of My Fujoshi Life! I don’t usually pick favorites among my fellow OWLs bloggers posts, but since it is Mental Health Awareness Month, and since I absolutely adore Ten Count I made an exception! It’s not often that authors depict the nuances of mental health condition realistically in their manga, but Ten Count is one of those rare exceptions and Crimson did a fantastic job of showcasing that in her Blog Tour post. GO READ THIS POST NOW… and while you’re at it, read Ten Count too!!

My Sexual Harassment – Boys Love Classic ReviewThis post comes from Mistress of Yaoi of The Yaoi Playground! I saw this BL classic years ago and no matter how many years pass or how many other BL anime I see, I will always, ALWAYS vividly remember the corn scene… That aside, this blogger wrote a fantastic review of the OVA and honestly after reading it, I went back and re-watched My Sexual Harassment and it still holds up really well! Definitely check out this review and the OVA, you won’t be disappointed!!

Goku is Trash– This post comes from Lizzo from SOULCIAL DREAMIN’ ENT! I saw this post in my reader, and immediately knew I had to include it in this week’s Blogger Spotlight. I love DBZ, it was one of the first anime I ever watched, but even with my nostalgia goggles on, I am aware that our boy Goku is a seriously flawed character. This post is short and sweet, but it’s unapologetic and honest, definitely worth the read!!

Anime Breaking Down Social StigmaThis post comes from Chris of Peach’s Almanac! I discovered this blog last week, thanks to Lita Kino and her delightful features and I fell in love! If I could I would spotlight all of this blogger’s posts! This is an outstanding look at the stigma associated with anime and its fan. Not only does the author address the issue of stigma and its pervasiveness despite anime becoming more mainstream, but they also address the impact this has on the community. This is a fantastic read from a phenomenal writer, definitely check it out!!

So here we are at the end of this week’s post! Be sure to check out some of the bloggers from this week’s Weekly Blogger Spotlight, and drop them a line! Strike up a conversation or make a new friend! Don’t be shy get out there and mingle! 😉 Also, don’t worry if your post wasn’t featured in this week’s recap, keep writing and keep posting! I’ll keep my eye out!

See something in your Reader this week that you wanna share? Tell me what you think about my post? Anything you want to see more of? Less of? Have an idea for a post? Shoot me a line in the comments section  or Message me on Twitter! Don’t be shy, I swear I don’t bite! I appreciate input and discussions from my readers so let your voice be heard…and finally, as always Thank You for reading!

  1. I remember the news about you joining Manga.Tokyo, and I think it’s awesome. You are a great writer and you did an excellent job on the review. I can relate to the Wendy gif. I feel like I am trying to be like Peter Pan, I am kid who doesn’t want to grow up and I try to have fun.

    1. Aww Matt, thank you!! I was so nervous when I submitted that one, but I’m glad it’s doing well. Definitely gave me a confidence boost 😄

Gosh, if I could pull a Peter Pan I would, being an adult is overrated! Ah but at least there are nice people like you and the rest of the aniblogger community to brighten the days!!

      1. I’m good! Yasss I follow on Twitter, Facebook, and WordPress now. This should kick me in the butt and get me to work on the ridiculously long list of anime I need to watch hehe.

Well, I do get to go to bed when I want and eat ice cream whenever, but there are consequences for that D: I guess it’s not too bad in small doses and so long as you don’t take it too seriously.
