My Lover is an Apathetic God: Star Crossed Myth- Aigonorus Review

So it’s no secret that I am a fan of Voltage Inc’s Star Crossed Myth, I have already written two reviews on the game already. But, in the past I’ve mostly stuck to the gods from the Department of Punishments (do with that information what you will), completely neglecting the gods from the Department of Wishes. So it’s high time I show them some love, and what better choice for my first Wishes god than Heudhault Aigonorus?!

Aignorous is the god of Capricorn, the guy who’s just too lazy to be bothered with…anything. As if his bedroom eyes and permanent bed head, weren’t enough indication that this guy isn’t the most vigorous god of the zodiac. I know I say this every time, but I was not expecting to like Aigonorus as much as I did, especially after someone on Tumblr compared him to Sasuke Uchiha! I was worried I’d been too hasty in buying this route, but after playing through it, I can safely say that he is most definitely nothing like Sasuke. In truth, Aigonorus is probably closest to Shikamaru, as both characters possess an almost superhuman level of apathy.

I was so afraid of getting hurt

IMG_2547.PNGAfter the MC is attacked by the King of the Under Realm’s henchmen, the King of the Heavens sends six new gods to Earth for her protection. But, the MC has trouble deciding which god will be her personal bodyguard, so they all start vying for her attention. Overwhelmed by it, she goes with the only god not trying to seduce her, Aigonorus. Of course, the minute his name leaves her lips the other 11 gods question her sanity, as Aigonorus is probably the last person anyone would choose as a protector. Aigonorus is extremely indifferent about everything, and I mean everything, especially his duties as a god. He manages to do things with the least amount of effort possible and can often be found snoozing alone in a corner. IMG_2581.PNGWhen he does grant wishes, he is very literal about it, at one point in the route he grants the wish of a woman overwhelmed by her one-sided love. Instead of taking the time to consider her feelings, he opts to remove her feelings of love completely, much to the disgust of the MC. On the surface his actions seem cold and detached,  but in reality he is more familiar with her situation than anyone knows. Prior to the story he too experienced a painful one-sided love, burned by the experience, Aigonorus vowed to never leave himself open to that kind of pain again. His apathy comes about as a way to protect himself, rather than as a default personality trait. He keeps everyone at arms length, both his fellow gods and the MC, in order to avoid being hurt. IMG_2616.PNGIn addition to his normal divine abilities, Aigonorus possesses the ability to communicate with animals and control their minds. So when tasked with protecting the MC, he delegates his duties to his specially trained goat heralds. However, they prove to be ill equipped to handle the task, leaving her open to another attack by the King of the Under Realm’s henchmen and it is his callousness with her that leads the King of the Heavens to brand him with a mark of sin. He is punished by the King to stay within 3 meters of the MC, or else he’ll receive a painful shock. The King also proclaims that until Aigonorus is willing to take his guard duties seriously, he and the MC must remain in the heavens. At first their forced closeness creates problems for the MC, who finds Aigonorus’s indifference frustrating. He seems unconcerned with having to spend every hour of the day with the MC, thinking nothing of sleeping in the same bed as her or bathing together in the open communal bath. IMG_2649.PNGIn fact he doesn’t seem to see the MC as a woman at all, but the more they send time together, the more they begin to fall into a comfortable routine. I’d be lying if I said this route was without flaws, because for the first half of the route, I was blindly clicking away at my iPad. This route is extremely slow, I mean ridiculously slow, it didn’t really pick up until chapter seven, when Aigonorus shares some insight into his past. Before that point there had been some subtle shift in their relationship; like the MC noticing Aigonorus’s love of soft/fluffy things and Aigonorus noticing how down to Earth the MC is (no pun intended). It isn’t until he shares his past with her that they make any real progress, but, when it happens it’s obvious! Aigonorous becomes much more open with the MC, showing interest in her life on Earth by asking questions and even asking to explore the city with her. He becomes much more protective of the MC opting to keep her close to him at all times, even at the expense of his own life. By the end of the route he makes a complete turn around, as he learns that some things are worth investing time in!

I want to protect you

IMG_2590.PNGSo, Ms. MC, had her work cut out for her this time, Aigonorus is not an easy man to fall in love with. I want to commend her for not being a sadist and using the 3 meter rule to constantly shock Aigonorus in this route. His lazy way of doing everything would have driven me crazy, but the MC in this route never loses her cool. Like every other Voltage MC since the dawn of time, she is very patient and understanding of her damaged love interest. Lesser MCs would have judged him for his indifference, but this MC chooses to try and understand him instead. When he takes her to see his goat heralds and one of them attacks her, she doesn’t get angry, nor does she retaliate, instead she grins and bears it like a champ. In doing so she manages to get Aigonorus to lower his defenses and open up to her. It’s her accepting personality that attracts Aigonorus to her more so than anything else, but that’s not all there is to her. When things get tough, she doesn’t back down facing challenges head on. When she is cursed by the King of the Under Realm, she pushes Aigonorus away for his protection. By the end of the route the MC’s patience and understanding help her unlock Aigonorus’s closed heart.

Do I Recommend His Route?

yeah okay

Eh, kind of… Aigonorus is a solid character with a well written backstory and overall plot…however, it took too long for anything substantial to happen between the MC and Aigonorus! Nothing happens for the first 6 or 7 chapters, for the first half of the game, the MC and Aigonorus are in the heavens, so any danger from attack by the King of the Under Realm is rendered moot. It’s not like he and his evil minions are going to storm the pearly gates of the heavens and snatch her right from under the King of the Heavens’s nose…so the player is forced to rely solely on the romantic plotline for enjoyment. But even that is pretty non-existent! The romantic progression between Aigonorus and the MC is so gradual that it’s maddening, sure the MC starts to see Aigonorus for the man that he really is, but there are almost no romantic revelations from his side. The only time he even shows any interest in anything, is when he takes the MC to see his heralds, before that… he’s a brick wall.  However, when he does start to open up to the MC, he’s adorable! Aigonorus’s true personality shines in the second half of the game, before that, I was really on the fence about this route. So, if you’re willing to sit through a whole lot of nothing for the first 6 or so chapters, Aigonorus’s route is worth the play through. He’s a big old softy that’s just afraid of getting hurt!

There are two endings in this route, the Blessed Ending and the Forbidden Ending…  In the Forbidden Ending, the MC and Aigonorus party the night away with 11 other gods. After the party Aigonorus takes the MC to a hidden garden courtyard where he reveals why he tried to distance himself from the MC. They vow to be there for one another no matter what and share a sweet moment together. In the Blessed Ending, the MC and Aigonorus are given permission to be together, so the other 11 gods throw them a party in celebration. After awhile the pair slip away from the festivities to share a sweet romantic moment alone in the Heavens. If I had to choose I guess I’d have to say I prefer the Forbidden Ending, it just felt more intimate than the Blessed Ending.

      1. Now I’m super curious about this game too! Haha I have to finish at least one of the two games I’m working on before I buy another… At least that’s what I keep telling myself lol but the struggle is real! I see this and I’m like, “Ohhhhhh…. I want it.”

      2. Ah the words of every Voltage fan under the sun! You already know what I’m gonna say…. “Get it so we can fangirl about it!!!”

But Star Crossed Myth is one of my favorites! did you check out my reviews for the other gods (Scorpio and Zyglavis)?

  1. Surprisingly I really enjoyed Agios route. He’s so freaking cute, where I would say Scorpio is just plain hawtttt and Zyg is well… dead sexy. Anyways I just finished the Agio sequel it definitely took a completely opposite direction…. at least that’s how it felt to me. I love your gifs though! They describe the exact emotion you feel about trying that route. It was very meh… at first but he grew on me. ❤

    1. Thank you! I feel gifs get the point across better than scales which seem a bit too arbitrary for me lol.

I adored Aigo as a character, his story on the other hand was nothing especially mind blowing.

I bought his sequel but I have yet to playthrough it. Is it a good change or a bad change?

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment! I really appreciate reading other people’s perspectives!😁

      1. It was uhh… Good? I think. Sadly not as drawn out with the “physical descriptions” as say Scorpio and the MC get in his stories when it’s “bedtime” but I will say I get a slight clingy-ness from Aigo in the sequel. A lot of repetitive phrases. Still love him but he and Hue are tied in 3rd in my book… trailing Dui and Zyglavis for 2nd, with Scorpio out in front! Giddy up! Haha! 😄

      2. Ah I see, well I won’t be in a rush to get to it then lol. Thanks for letting me know! 😁

I agree Scorpio and Ziggy are on top right now!! Department of Punishments for the win!!
